This is an earth-toned painting, sand warmed by terracotta. In color psychology earth tones are associated with stability and a sense of safety.
The warm ground was laid first; the terracotta and ochre only surface where the upper layers were left thin, so the colour underneath keeps showing through.
Nothing here is trying to hold itself together. It simply rests on what's underneath.
At 60 × 40 cm it settles a desk wall, a reading corner or a narrow shelf, and its sand and terracotta sit easily with warm woods, linen and off-white walls.
